Medical Billing Credentialing Oklahoma

Navigating OHCA's SoonerCare System — Oklahoma City to Tulsa

Oklahoma Medicaid runs through SoonerCare, administered by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA). Since 2024, OHCA has moved most SoonerCare enrollees into managed care under SoonerSelect, layering plan-level credentialing on top of standard state enrollment. We track both, plus Novitas Solutions Medicare rules, for practices across Oklahoma.

2026 Update

New CMS Application Fee Now Affects Oklahoma Enrollment

$

$750 CY2026 Institutional Application Fee

CMS set a $750 application fee for institutional providers enrolling, revalidating, or adding a location in any state Medicaid program in 2026, including SoonerCare. Individual physicians and non-physician practitioners are exempt. Providers who already paid this fee for Medicare or another state's Medicaid can claim an exemption with documentation — we handle that paperwork so you don't pay twice.

!

Group vs. Individual Enrollment Gap

A common denial source for new Oklahoma practices: the group entity (NPI-2) enrolls with OHCA, claims go out under it, and they're denied because the rendering provider's individual (NPI-1) enrollment was never completed separately. We verify both levels before your first claim goes out.

Common Questions

Medical Billing Credentialing Oklahoma — FAQ

Does the new $750 CMS application fee apply to my Oklahoma practice?
It applies only to institutional providers enrolling, revalidating, or adding a service location in CY2026 — individual physicians and non-physician practitioners are exempt. If you already paid this fee for a Medicare enrollment or another state's Medicaid, you can claim an exemption with documentation instead of paying again.
Who is Oklahoma's Medicare Administrative Contractor?
Novitas Solutions administers Medicare Part A and B for Jurisdiction H, covering Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Louisiana — the same MAC jurisdiction as Texas.
Is SoonerCare enrollment enough, or do I need separate SoonerSelect credentialing?
Base SoonerCare enrollment through OHCA is required first, but most enrollees are now in managed care under SoonerSelect, which requires separate plan-level credentialing on top of state enrollment.
Why do new Oklahoma group practices see claim denials right after hiring?
The most common cause: the group NPI-2 is enrolled and billing, but the new provider's individual NPI-1 enrollment was never completed. An enrolled group doesn't automatically cover providers under it.
